Design, artisans, craftsmanship, handmade. In ethical and sustainable fashion, it's the details that make the all the difference. There's nothing to share when your clothes are copied off the runway to be made from cheap materials sewn by unfairly paid workers—in fact, it's something to hide. But when you take the time to employ skilled artisans in traditional crafts and bring that magic to modern markets the way MATTER does, you want to shout it from the rooftops.
Metaphorically speaking, that's what they're doing. You might have seen MATTER prints in Peppermint or Conscious Magazine, or styled by my colleagues, The Peahen, Sustainably Chic, and Saiint. However, you still may not know just how the prints are created—that's where I come in. MATTER commissioned me to illustrate the traditional block printing process used by the artisans they work with and in my usual educational style, that's what I did.
They'll be sharing these and other images from the series on their social media channels, so be sure and follow them on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. And now that you know how special these pants are, you might even want your own pair. These are my favorite.
