The Ethical Gift Issue

As it is the holiday shopping season, it's traditional to offer gift guides. I could spend time doing these, tempting myself along the way with cool new stuff, but I realized I have been sharing brands I love all along. These are steadfast, slow, and sustainable companies that therefore don't need a shiny new introduction. So why not revisit past brands I've introduced or simply peruse my SHOP section (in the top navigation) for recommended options? This is meant to be a place where you can keep coming back to reliable alternatives.

If possible, also take the time to evaluate your gift-giving traditions. Do you find or make meaningful gifts or are you shopping "just to get something" for someone? I'm lucky that my family either gives cash or simply spends time together (another reason I don't need gift guides). Here's a PSA sounding sentence: talk to your family about the holidays today. You might find that everyone is stressed or financially stretched finding gifts for everyone. Have suggestions like experiences, meals, or just spending time together at the ready. Be open to new traditions and the uncomfortable possibility that you might not receive any gifts yourself.

If you need to get a gift, please shift your consumption to brands that care about people, animals, and the environment. If none of the options here suit you, hit me up for recommendations in the comments or by email elizabeth[at] I'd be happy to point you in the right direction.

Happy Holidays to you all!
